Waste Water Heat Recovery
Direct Contact Water Heater
Ludell is the Patent Holder NO.4574775 of the direct contact water heating technology. Available in size from 1 million to 54 million BTU/HR. The Direct Contact Water Heaters reduce the heating process to one step compared with a conventional boiler’s two. Unlike a typical 100-psi boiler system that provides 338 Deg.F. steam to a shell and tube heat exchanger to produce 180 Deg. F. water, these heaters produce 180 Deg. F. water instantly. And unlike a boiler, which introduces steam on the shell side of the heat exchanger as cold water passes through the tube side of the heat exchanger, these heaters introduce energy from a burner directly to cold water at 99% efficiency. These heaters are divided into three zones: an upper zone with a cold-water spray nozzle, a middle zone with stainless steel transfer packing media, and a lower combustion zone where heat from burner nozzle contacts water droplets. The units take up less floor space than a boiler with similar output, and they don’t require water that has been treated.
Ludell’s Boiler Feed Water System’s are used to replenish the water used by a boiler to produce steam. The tank collects condensate returns and adds fresh make up water. The tanks are constructed of stainless steel to protect them against dissolved oxygen corrosion. The tank acts as a collecting point for low pressure condensate and gravity condensate returns saving energy that would otherwise be lost. These tanks are vented to atmosphere, providing no pressure resistance that would inhibit gravity return. The water is then pressurized by the pump to overcome the boiler operating pressure.
Pump and Valve Prepiped Package
Mini Direct Contact Water Heater
Stack Gas Heat Absorber (Economizer)
Ludell provides standard and customized quality stainless steel tanks.Tanks are offered in a variety of size to best suit a customer's surge demand of water.Tanks can be non-code for atmospheric operation or ASME code for pressurized operation.Cylindrical, and rectangular shapes available to meet your space requirements.
- Pre-Wired Control Panel reduces installation costs.
- Designed and built to meet individual plant specifications.
- Digital temperature indicator
- Operating lights to provide central monitoring.
Prepiped and valve packages will not only reduce the system total cost and quicken installation time, but it also ensures the system components are piped to design specifications. With prepiping, all that remains in installation time is the mechanical and electrical connections.
Hot waste water generated in all industrial plants can be a source of heat energy. Most of the heat remaining in the wastewater can be recovered and transferred to incoming clean fresh water as make-up to tempered or hot water systems. This is the heart of the Ludell
Engineered Heat Recovery System. Current technology has increased the efficiency of waste water heat recovery systems through the use of computer designed continuous shell and tube type heat exchangers. Ludell’s Waste Water Heat Recovery Systems will reduce boiler loads and boiler fuel consumption reducing the steam requirements to generate hot water, provide better temperature control over tempered and hot water systems, provide shorter processing cycles by the ability to start cycles with higher controlled water temperatures regardless of incoming fresh water temperature, provide higher quality laundered textiles by providing a more consistent control over water temperatures and reduce discharge waste water temperature to sewer or waste water treatment system.
Other companies purchase heat exchanger and pass them off as their own. Ludell manufactures its own complete line of U-tube type heat exchangers and tube bundles. Ludell also manufacturer’s custom design and engineered heat exchangers based on desired performance. Ludell manufactures their own heat exchanger in-house and is the ASME code section VIII stamp holder. Ludell’s ASME code stamp numbers are 29519 for “U” and 18439 for “UM”. We control all aspects and take responsibility for engineering, design, inspection, testing and performance.
The mini is the same concept as out larger direct contact water heater except available in sizes up to 1 million BTU/HR. Ludell is the Patent Holder NO.4574775 of the direct contact water heating technology. Implement an energy conservation method, which can recover a majority of the energy wasted up the boiler exhaust stack. A Direct Contact Heat Recovery System can be used to transfer the exhaust gas heat directly to process hot water. A typical gas fired boiler in an industrial process operates at an efficiency of 70 to 80%, with exhaust stack temperature in excess of 350 Deg. F. Consequently, 20% or more of the fuel consumed is exiting the boiler stack. The Ludell Stack Gas Heat Absorber (Economizer) is a direct contact heat recovery technology, which involves passing the hot flue gas through a stream of water. The resulting flue gas exiting temperature is within 10 Deg. F. of the incoming water; that is, if the inlet water temperature is 60 Deg. F. the stack temperature will be 70 Deg. F. Since the flue gas is cooled below its dew point, both the latent heat of the water vapor in the flue gas and the sensible heat is recovered. The Ludell Stack Gas Heat Absorber eliminates the problems inherent in older style stack economizers. The system is supplied in stainless steel construction, designed for low-pressure drop and maximum heat recovery.
